Effectiveness of Anti-Wrinkle Creams
Anti-wrinkle creams come in two forms….those that are administered by prescription only and those that can be purchased over-the-counter.
Many prescription and over-the-counter anti-wrinkle products contain identical active ingredients.
There is just much less of the active ingredients in the over-the-counter versions and they are, therefore, much less effective and must be used for a much longer period of time before they provide any discernible lessening of wrinkles if they ever do.
Over-the-counter anti-wrinkle creams have not been tested and so have not been proven to have any effect.
Prescription medications must undergo rigorous testing and be approved by the FDA as a medicine, unlike over-the-counter anti-wrinkle creams which are classified as a cosmetic and are tested for effectiveness of safety by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).
The cost of an over-the-counter anti-wrinkle cream has no bearing on the effectiveness of the product. The two are completely unrelated.
A very expensive anti-wrinkle cream can be far less effective than a very inexpensive one. The cost has no bearing on the effectiveness.
Most over-the-counter anti-wrinkle creams must be applied at least twice a day everyday for several weeks before there is any noticeable improvement. As soon as use is discontinued, the skin will return to its pretreated state.
Some people have very sensitive skin or are plagued by skin allergies. These people may well present symptoms of an allergic reaction like rashes, irritation, burning or redness.
If these symptoms of an allergic reaction are noticed, discontinue the use of the product immediately. If the rash, irritation, burning or redness does not abate in two or three days, you should see your doctor.
Research does suggest that the ingredients in some over-the-counter anti-wrinkle creams can improve wrinkles. There is no scientific proof.
